Training & Development

Training and Development offers a range of professional development opportunities to all staff and volunteers working at Tulgeen Disability Services.

Tulgeen Disability Services understands the importance of continually educating staff regarding the demands and risks associated with work in the Disability Services Industry. Tulgeen recognises that a high standard of training will assist to improve staff retention, which in the long run means better service delivery to clients.

Tulgeen Disability Services employs a Training & Development Facilitator whose role encompasses:

  • Delivering in-house staff training sessions and workshops.
  • Conducting a skills analysis of all levels of staff.
  • Working with staff on their Professional Development Plans.
  • Mentoring individual staff members in their Professional Development.
  • Facilitating External Training to meet the needs of the Organisation and Staff.

In consultation with their Managers/Coordinator and the Training & Development Facilitator, staff are involved in a ‘needs based’ training program that is reviewed annually.
Tulgeen Disability Services has a partnership with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), who supports the Training & Development Facilitator to deliver accredited Training courses from the Community Services and Health Training Package.  Tulgeen Disability Services in conjunction with the RTO can offer VETAB accredited courses such as Certificate IV Disability, Diploma of Disability, Certificate IV Frontline Management, Certificate III Home and Community Care and Health Support and Certificate IV Service Coordination.  There are also a large number of specialist short courses on offer.

Australian Apprenticeship/Traineeship Program
All eligible new Support Workers are offered the opportunity of undertaking a traineeship.
To be eligible for a traineeship you must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident who meet the following requirements.  You are:

  • Prepared to work a minimum of 15 hours per week (permanent part-time),
  • Have not other recognised qualification at Certificate III level or above, and
  • Have been working for Tulgeen Disability Services less than twelve (12) months part-time or for three (3) months full-time.
