Training & Development

Training and Development offers a range of professional development opportunities to all staff and volunteers working at Tulgeen Disability Services.

Tulgeen Disability Services understands the importance of continually educating staff regarding the demands and risks associated with working in the Disability Service Industry.

Our organisation recognises that a high standard of training will assist to improve staff retention, which in the long run means better service delivery for clients.

Since February 2004, Tulgeen Disability Services has employed a Training and Development Facilitator. This role has been responsible for:

  • Delivering in-house staff training sessions and workshops.
  • Conducting a skills analysis of all levels of staff.
  • Working with staff on their Professional Development Action Plans.
  • Mentoring individual staff members in their Professional Development

In consultation with their Manager/Coordinator and the Training and Development Facilitator, staff are involved in a ‘needs based’ training program that is reviewed annually.

We also have an ongoing relationship with Integrated Care Management who support and conduct our accredited training courses in disability studies

Accredited Training was established in partnership with Integrated Care Management, a registered training organisation. Our Training and Development Facilitator will deliver a range of nationally accredited courses at Tulgeen Disability Services each designed to provide cost effective and quality workplace training.

Tulgeen Disability Services in conjunction with Integrated Care Management can offer VETAB accredited courses such as Certificate IV in Disability, Diploma of Disability Work and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. There are also a large number of specialised short courses on offer. To date this relationship has seen over fifty (50) staff successfully complete Certificate IV in Disability Work.

All eligible new Support Workers are offered the opportunity of undertaking a traineeship.

To be eligible for a traineeship you must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident who meets the following requirements. You are:

  • prepared to work a minimum of 15 hours per week (permanent Part-time),
  • have no other recognised qualification at certificate III level or above, and
  • have been working for Tulgeen Disability Services less than 12 months part-time or for three months full time.
